Take away religion, take away tradition, what is left?
John 8:32 ”And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:36 ”Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Hebrews 1:1-4 God who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels as He by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Why do you go to church? Do you go to church because all your friends are there? Do you go because you are sick and you are afraid you are going to die? Do you go because you live in a small town and the neighbors will talk if you do not go? Do you go because your mom and dad make you? Do you go because everybody else goes? If everybody got in line to jump off a bridge, would you jump off?
It has been two thousand years since the world crucified Jesus. Jesus has been sitting at the right hand of God waiting for believers to make His enemies His footstool. God has given us the Holy Spirit so that we may stake claim for the Body of Christ. We should be doing the works that Jesus did, and we should do more works than He did because He has given us His power to do them. When we accept Christ, He lives in us. Our body’s become His church. We need to fill them with God’s truth, which is His word. If you go to a church and your Bible stays home you leave the truth behind. Some churches today are tradition and religion. If the church was set up on the truth and the truth was what we were seeking when we went, we would be excited about what was at the church. And the truth would have made us free. If you are not free and you go to church every sunday, you must not be hearing the truth. Or you are hearing and not doing the word. There is nothing that is messed up in God’s word, But there is something messed up in some of the men that preach it, and some of the men that receive it. So if we go by what God says and take out the world’s confusion that is religion and tradition, and pursue the truth and nothing but the truth, we shall be free. Let’s not add to, or take away anything from God’s word. When we do, it becomes religion and tradition. When we do not, the only thing there is left is the truth we need.
Take away tradition, take away religion, and Truth is all that is left to live by, everyday, not just sunday.
March 4, 2004 at 1:29 am #18606GailParticipantYou wrote, or quoted, that we should be doing the works Jesus did and (even) more works because He has given us this power to do them. Do you mind expanding on this and maybe giving some examples. I get confused by the “good works” some churches do as opposed to what God wants from us. Thanks for the insights. Love, Gail

These scriptures give us a good idea of the works Jesus did. What is important to know that when the blind see, that it can be physical blindness and people blinded from not ever seeing the truth. That when the deaf hear that it can be physical deafness and from not ever hearing the truth. And when people are healed from sickness and disease it is because of their faith, and understanding in God’s word.
When we hear the truth we can then tell the truth.
When we see the truth we can show what is the truth.
When we show people how to accept Christ as their savior, we raise the dead, to everlasting life.
When we use our faith to claim our healing, and walk the walk, we talk then we give the lame a direction, or reason to rise. We then can be an example for others to follow.
When we tell others of the victory in Christ, we may be the only example they ever see. These are the works Christ did that we will need to do also. It will take our faith in the word that works for us, that will give an example to others. It will take their faith to believe in what they see, and hear, in us. Let us not lead them astray.
