Should a thousand words paint the picture?

Exodus 20:4-6 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments

Why is God so against carved images? The Scriptures tell us God is a jealous God. But why would He be jealous of anything we would make?

When we put any image next to God, it puts limits on our ability to love God. God is everywhere all the time, and through His Son Jesus we can speak with Him where ever we are. We are to worship God in spirit and truth, with our words of praise. When we speak praises to God that others can hear, we paint a mental picture that is seen by others that only their minds can see. When we make an image and connect it to Christ and we do not love and keep His commandments, that image becomes something others turn from, without ever hearing the truth. And that image is not what God is.

God loved each of us as individuals. He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him. God wants each of us to speak to Him. He wants us to give Him praise with our words. This will allow us to paint a mental picture with words of what God means to us. It reveals to the world, what our God means to us, and what He has done for us. The mental picture is one that can only be seen to the ones who will listen and take the words and make there own mental image. If you say nothing, but display an image that people mistake for Christian, the true image of God that cannot be seen, will not be known.

If you make a prayer and say, this is what you say everyday, if you practice a daily or weekly religious exercise, if you make good luck charms, if you have an image that you think you rub just the right way, to stay in line with God, if you have anything that you think puts you closer to God without speaking to Him, you will need to get rid of it and open your mouth and let your heart speak praises to God through His Son.

Are you letting pictures or images say the thousand words you need to be speaking to God?

Are you letting pictures and images speak to others about God and His Son?

Know God and His Son and let your words of praise, paint the picture.
