Is your yes, no, and your no, yes?
Matthew 5:37 ”But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
Matthew 21:28-31 ”But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son go, work today in my vineyard,’ “He answered and said, ‘I will not, but afterward he regretted it and went. “Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir, but he did not go. “Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, Assuredly, I say to you tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
Matthew 12:37 ”For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
It seems as though, the first son in this parable was the one that did the will of his father, at least to the people Jesus was talking to. Jesus let them know that they were so wrong with their answer, that harlots and tax collectors would enter the kingdom before them. And they were probably shocked at His reply.
To do the will of our heavenly Father, we must let our yes be yes. And our no be no. And be sure of our words we speak before we speak them.
Think about what you say, and do what you say. Any regrets should be thought of before you open your mouth and speak.
