Do you give in secret, or do you let the world know?

Matthew 6:1-4 ”Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. “Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. “But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

When you live life as a believer, you will be led to do things for others. As you are led to give, it is important you do it with a pure motive. When you give to another and you are a believer, you give because you love that person and you want to bless that person. If you announce your giving to men around you, you draw the attention of men and they say, “you are a good man,” and that is your reward. If you give to draw attention from anyone, other than God, you let others know of your generosity. Their praise is the only reward you will have.

We as Christians need to give in secret, and as we do, God will give us a reward from heaven that only we that gave in secret will understand. The worlds way of giving is to get something in return. The world’s way always has an ulterior motive for giving. It could be to show power, as if the world had any over Christians. It may be to ease their own mind of being indebted to someone. It could be to keep you on a leash, thinking that is where your treasure is and you better not leave or the blessing will stop. The world will make you think you need the world’s riches.

God will let you know differently. He is our reward, and He will reward all we do with pure motive. God’s way of giving is to show love, grace, and mercy. God gave because He loved. For us to be Christ like we should do the same. Give with the best intentions and no strings attached. God does. God lined His will up with the world’s to show His love by giving His Son Jesus.

Let us give God love in return by, lining our will up with His, accepting His Gift, Jesus as our Savior, and in return giving to others with pure intentions, no string attached.
