I have several questions about what the devil knows. #!) Does the devil hear our prayers? (which could give him more ammunition to use against us) #2) Does the devil understand tongues? (’cause if he didn’t that would be another good reason to pray in tongues) and #3) I know GOD knows all, but does the devil? If not, how does the devil learn about us – by our confessions?
Please understand – I don’t want to know more about the devil than I do about GOD. I know that loving and trusting in GOD makes whatever the devil does meaningless. I just want to know my enemy!!
Thanks, Gail

When we pray the scriptures tell us to pray in a room with the door closed. Matthew 6:6 I would have to believe this is because, if we can build our faith to a point, that we can keep from fear, doubt, or worry, and we pray in secret, and God can reward us openly, we will see that God is answering our prayers of faith. If we allow another to hear what we pray for, their confession of fear, doubt, and worry, can and will effect our faith, because faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. And if someone is saying God did not hear you or it didn’t work, etc… your faith will be hindered greatly.
When we pray in tongues we do not know what we are saying, we believe by faith that what we just said God heard and when we get what our desires are, we know that the praying in tongues is working. 1Corinthians 13, 14To have signs following our prayers, is the best faith builder I can think of. Now if we pray in tongues and we cannot understand what we just said, the devil cannot even say, “You will not get what you prayed for.” You do not know what you said yourself. And how sweet that is. The scriptures tell us that when we pray in tongues we pray in a way that we do not know what to pray for. It allows us to pray for someone in the Spirit and the Spirit knows what everyone needs. And how sweet that is. If you can not mess up tongues because you do not know what you are saying I would have to say the devil cannot either.
When we know all about the devil and find out how little power he has, we get to a place in life we are supposed to be as God’s children. The more we find out about the devil the better. If we can identify every wolf dressed up like a sheep, and let others know we can smile from ear to ear as the devil is exposed.
Know this, the devil is a conterfeiter. He can only make a cheap, and twisted imitation of the real thing, and it will cost you, because he comes not but for to steal, kill and destroy. And the devil is a liar and the father of them.John 8:44 Thanks for the discussion.

March 25, 2004 at 7:51 pm #18667JimmyParticipantMy forensics coach and I were discussing the works of C.S. Lewis. Lewis was a professor of religious study, and he wrote a book called “The Sticktape Letters”. In the book, he debunked a long-standing myth; Many people think that God and the Devil are equals, two forces acting in counterbalance. We, as humans, assume this is true, because we look for the balance in the everyday things. HEAR THIS: GOD IS INFINITELY MORE POWERFUL THAN THE DEVIL! If you believe that God is the supreme being, you have to believe just that; the Devil is NOT God’s equal. Lewis wrote that the Devil is a sharp, shrewed businessman. He knows he can’t outsmart God, he cannot overpower Him, and he cannot outclass Him; He CAN, however, trick you out of believing in God. And he keeps trying all the time (in church, at home, at work, etc.). You’re not safe from the Devil’s tongue and his underhanded reasoning unless you know that God is the master and he can hold back the Devil.

March 29, 2004 at 5:17 pm #18669GailParticipantRight you are! I never read any of it. Like I told Jimmy, he also wrote a book called The Screwtape Letters which is a satirical story of letters back to Heaven from an archangel banished to Earth.
