I can remember at about 25 or 26 years of age deciding I wanted to dress my truck up with a nice set of rims, they were magnesium, and never needed to be polished. They cost more than most and I had learned not only was God good, He wanted me to have the desires of my heart. All I would ever want or need He would allow me to have it. All I had to do was set the desire in motion. As I set out to have my desire I learned such an important lesson, I wondered if God was speaking to me. I left it at that and let the lesson be mine and never spoke of it, but each time I saw those wheels it reminded me of the lesson I had learned.
Now twenty years later the lesson shows up again, but this time for my son. He decided he wanted these fancy high dollar rims for his truck. I had not encouraged or discouraged the purchase, but was waiting to see if that same lesson would come to him. You see as you follow Gods lead you come to realize He wants the world for you, He just wants to know your ready for it, and as you receive it, it does not overwhelm you. As you receive your desires they should come with a little bit of understanding. My son set out to make a purchase he had been pondering, and wondering if it was the right thing to do. After all he had wheels that rolled and really no need for them. The same decision I had made and wondered at the time, was it right.
He set out to purchase them and when he came home it was clear from his conversation he had been spoken to as well. You see those rims represented in his life a choice he was not sure it was ok to make. The value of them to him were far more than he paid, because they fullfilled his desire. And that choice placed what he thought so much of and placed it into some one elses hands. Some one he hope and prayed would treat them as gently as he would have himself. He had to depend on some one else to handle what he treasured, and his desire was for them to do it with all the care he had for them.
The first boy was careless and my son could see right away if he was left to handle the job, the rims would be damaged. The manager seeing the concern on his face stepped in and finished the job, with the care my son wanted to see. Some one cared as much as he did about his treasure.
When I came to this understanding the truth of it, hit home. God had a Son, and He wanted me to treat Him with all the care that He would, God had lined His will up with the world’s. Jesus chose to line His will up with God’s will, which was in line with the world’s. He is God’s most important thing there is, and He allows us to take His name and over come this world. Will we handle that with all the gentleness and care that God has for Him? God’s desire is that you do. The lesson was plain, simple, and to the point. All it took was the desire to please God with all you do, and in doing so, you gain one more truth you can place under your stand. It was just wheels, but the lesson touched me twice in one life time.
The value of the wheels compared to Jesus? Worthless! The lesson and understanding you are reminded of when you see them? Priceless!
