Growing up so close to D.C. and in a democratic society, my whole life i have been thrust into politics. Whether it be following issues, to the whole “Are you democrat or republican?” issue. Along with that I always thought that I was a Republican. Until last night.

Last night John Kerry was giving some kind of campaign speech at George Mason University. Rather than having it in the Patriot Center where there would be plenty of room and parking, he had it in the center of campus where everything was shut down and crowded. I was given the opportunity to go and see the speech; and in the classroom discussion the teacher didn’t want to offend anybody so she asked how many democrats and republicans there were.

It was then that i realized that I truly am neither Democrat nor Republican. I am a Christian, I support the ruler of everything in its entirety not the would-be ruler of one particular country.

People in this world get so wrapped up in being affiliated with a particular group that they fail to realize that if you are labelling yourself as a Democrat, or Nazi, or Republican, or (your tag here), you state that you believe the same way that they believe. At least in the world’s eyes you represent the most prominent or televised figure that labels theirselves the same as you. It snatches away your individuality when you let yourself be labeled. With that being said, I have yet to see a political figure or other prominent “labeled” person that rightly divides, understands, and follows the word as they should to its entire extent.

Usually if they claim christianity, (along with being a republican) they work to limit peoples choices on right and wrong, and the same goes with being a democrat that claims to be christian. When in fact, God gave everyone a free will, and the act of taking away choices (or attempting to take away choices), whether it be to own a gun, or have an abortion, etc. Is not the political leader’s possession to take away. God Almighty allows a free choice, so who are they to say that you can’t have this choice anymore.

Understand though that there will still be laws and there should be laws and consequences, BUT, those laws and consequences which are made to keep order really don’t. Outlaws break laws, and good people don’t need them.

People are prone to messing up, so why would you label yourself according to one person or another? I choose to label myself according to the only perfect thing that there is in this earthly realm, Jesus.

As for those that claim christianity but are missing it at one point or another. The bible says, let your “yes” mean “yes” and your “no” mean “no”. So study the bible so that you may say “I’m a Christian.” and have that mean that though you may make mistakes, you are trying to the best of your ability to be as Christ-like as you can be. Let your “Christian” mean “Christian”.

I hope this post makes some sort of sense, feel free to reply and discuss what i have written or what you think so that i have not missed something. :)

In the south, lots of people have their own rule of “table conversation”. They agree to stay away from three things during dinner talk: Religion, politics, and old girlfriends (yikes). How sad that Religion is lumped in with the latter two topics; if more families discussed Jesus Christ’s influence on the world in the evening mealtime, think of how well America (and the rest of the world) COULD be doing. But, I digress.

Joey, I’m really glad you brought this one into light. I mean, let’s think about this, folks. It’s your duty as an American to participate in the democratic process, but greater than your American duties is your duty to Jesus Christ. If one “peeks ahead” to the book of Revelation, we see that the governments of the world will bow down upon the return of Jesus Christ. When He does return for you and I, He isn’t going to wait for a UN coalition force or an American probe or a go-ahead from the European Union. He’s coming with a sword and a staff and a list of names, and the rest of the world is going to realize that putting one’s faith in earthly rulers is NOT going to get them anywhere.

There will be plenty of mud-slinging in the coming months. I encourage everyone to do what every American should; vote, write, and make your voice heard. The most important thing for us to remember is that while we make our own voice heard, we need to keep listening to the “still small voice” within our own hearts.
